Just taking in what i have to do to the hull mold to get it ready to build a boat out of. things like, drain the water, some light sanding, an over all buffing, and then 8 coats of mold release.. Building a boat mold is one of the first steps in building a fiberglass boat. in short, the process involves building a plug, which is an exact duplicate of the boat you want to build. for small boats, like canoes and kayaks, the plug is often made from wood covered with fiberglass.. It sounds like you want to build one boat, not a bunch of them, which usually makes a mold a waste of time. it also sounds like you want a lightweight boat, which makes fiberglass far less appealing than plywood. mat is used with polyester or vinylester, not epoxy, and it is very heavy when laid up by hand..
