Re: painting inside of aluminum boat using a sand blaster to clean it seems to work well before the paint. as far as the zinc chromate primer, i havent found any yet. plasticoat makes it but lowes who is listed as a plasticoat distributer doesnt have it and the local paint store didnt even know the product.. A. if you want to paint an aluminum boat you first have to use a aluminum oxide primer. make sure the boat is totally clean before priming (lightly sand the boat) then use a tack cloth [linked by editor to product info at amazon] and rub the boat down. then prime it with the aluminum oxide primer.. Duralux aluminum boat green marine spray paint may also be used as a specialty primer on slick, hard to paint surfaces such as steel, steel chrome, chomemoly, zinc and cadmium plating, galvanized and stainless steel.. The aluminum doesn't have a lot of rust and with a little bit of sanding it will look better. i want to paint the inside of the aluminum boat. it doesn't have any old paint its just the aluminum. ive been looking online for the right way to paint it and i think i have an idea but i haven't gotten a straight up answer on what primers to use..
