Lake union wooden boat festival at the center for wooden boats (cwb) on south lake union in seattle is an old-fashioned, down-home waterfront festival where everything is fun, nothing much is fancy, and almost everything is free.it’s as authentically grassroots american as you can get.. The center for wooden boats lies on the southern shores of lake union, just around the corner from the museum of history and industry. the south lake union streetcar line stops just outside the center, where you can also find limited parking. the westlake ave. & mercer st. bus stop is under 5 minutes’ away.. Today, the center for wooden boats keeps that boathouse tradition alive in seattle. located in lake union park (1010 valley street), the museum (which is free to the public — although a donation is suggested) is home to more than 170 wooden vessels, which represent a wide variety of hull designs, sailing rigs, construction techniques and more..

The center for wooden boats at south lake union is a hub of hands-on learning year-round.boat rentals, classes and workshops, field trips, lectures, and opportunities for direct experience on the water and at the docks are just a few of the things you’ll find when you visit.. Lake union is a freshwater lake entirely within the seattle, washington city limits and a major portion of the lake washington ship canal. its easternmost point is the ship canal bridge, which carries interstate 5 over the eastern arm of the lake and separates lake union from portage bay.. The center for wooden boats (cwb) is a museum dedicated to preserving and documenting the maritime history of the pacific northwest area of the united states. cwb was founded by dick wagner in seattle in the 1970s and has grown to include three sites; the south lake union campus in lake union park, the northlake workshop & warehouse at the north end of lake union, and the center for wooden.
